Over half a million beds sold by retailers such as Walmart and Wayfair are being recalled due to a risk of breakage during use, resulting in dozens of reported injuries. Home Design, Inc., a furniture wholesaler based in Silver Lake, Indiana, has issued the recall, citing 128 reports of these beds breaking, sagging, or collapsing, leading to 36 unspecified injuries so far.
Various models and sizes of upholstered low profile standard and platform beds are affected by the recall. Home Design and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission advise consumers to cease using these beds immediately and contact the company for complimentary replacement slats and side rails.
To determine if a bed is part of the recall, consumers can check the list of impacted models and corresponding part numbers provided in the CPSC’s recall notice and on Home Design’s website. To obtain the free repair kit, individuals must email Home Design photos of the bed or proof of purchase along with the headboard’s “law label.”
Manufactured in Malaysia, the recalled beds were sold on Wayfair, Walmart.com, and Overstock.com between July 2018 and November 2023, with prices ranging from $100 to $300. The recall affects over 527,000 Home Design beds in the U.S. and nearly 56,000 in Canada.
